Advanced Program Candidate Competency at Completion

Measure 3:  Candidate competency at completion (R3.3)

Praxis Professional School Counselor test measures whether entry-level school counselors have the standards-relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities believed necessary for competent professional practice. The test is designed to follow the American School Counselor Association's ASCA National Model. There are four major components of the test that mirror ASCA's model: Foundations, Delivery of Services, Management, and Accountability.

Praxis Educational Leadership: Administration and Supervision (ELAS) assessment measures whether entry level education leaders have the standards-relevant knowledge believed necessary for competent professional practice. The content of the assessment was defined by a National Advisory Committee of expert practitioners and preparation faculty and confirmed by a national survey of the field. The exam is aligned with the 2015 Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL), developed by the National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA). *Note: Exam updated from 5411 to 5412 in 2019-2020 Academic Year.

Praxis School Superintendent Assessment measures whether entry-level superintendents demonstrate the standards-relevant knowledge and skills necessary for competent professional practice. The content of the SSA was defined by a national committee of expert practitioners and preparation faculty and confirmed by a national survey of the field. The SSA exam is aligned with the 2015 Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL) and the National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) standards. *Note: Exam updated from 6021 to 6991 in 2020-2021 Academic Year.

Praxis Reading Specialist test is intended primarily for persons who have advanced academic preparation and/or who are being considered for supervisory or instructional positions related to the teaching of reading instruction in grades K-12. The content is based largely on the 2017 Standards for the Preparation of Literacy Professionals created by the International Literacy Association. *Note: Exam updated from 5301 to 5302 in 2020-2021 Academic Year.

Praxis Special Education: Core Knowledge and Applications test is designed for examinees who plan to teach in a special education program at any grade level from preschool through grade 12. The questions on the test assess an examinee's knowledge of the basic principles of special education and the application of these principles to realistic situations. The content of this test is based largely on the Special Educator Professional Preparation Standards created by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
