The purpose of this syllabus addendum is to provide students with information that supplements the University catalog and other institutional policies. It is the student's responsibility to become familiar with these items and abide by all policies while enrolled at Doane University.

Course Evaluations: The faculty and administration of Doane value constructive and professional feedback from students. Information from the course evaluation is used for program and college accreditation. This information also provides faculty with formative feedback that could be used to impact and improve future instruction. The course evaluation is completed electronically by the student. Before completing a course evaluation, a student should reflect on their learning experience in order to provide thoughtful responses to the questions asked in the evaluation. The faculty and administration expect students to adhere to the tenets of professionalism when rating the course and faculty, especially when providing written comments. Any irrelevant or inappropriate comments will not be considered in relationship to impacting course instruction or as evaluative of faculty performance.
Credit Hour Definition: Doane University follows the federal guideline defining a credit hour as one hour (50 minutes) of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks (one semester), or the equivalent amount of work over a different time period (e.g., an 8-week term). This definition applies to courses regardless of delivery format, and thus includes on-ground, online, and hybrid courses (combination of on-ground and online). It also applies to internship, laboratory, performance, practicum, research, student teaching, and studio courses, among other contexts.
Doane Email address: All Doane students are provided with a Doane email address. It is the responsibility of the student to check this email account on a regular basis to receive important information from faculty and other university personnel.
Instructor Recordings of Class Sessions: The instructor may record portions of this class for educational purposes. The recordings will be shared only with students enrolled in the course and will be deleted at the conclusion of the course. Students may not reproduce, post, or distribute any recordings provided by the instructor.
Learning Management System and Campus Network: Doane University uses Canvas (https://doane.instructure.com/) as the learning management system for the facilitation of communication between faculty and students, submission of assignments and posting of grades. Due to upgrades or a technical outage, if Canvas is unavailable for an extended period of time, contact your instructor if due dates will be missed.
Liability: Doane University reserves the right to make changes to the curriculum, course structure, course schedule, course offerings, course modality, course instructors, calendar, graduation requirements, costs, or any of its policies, procedures, and practices without notice. Doane does not guarantee any particular educational outcome. The University is not responsible for, or bound by, any typographical errors related to policies, dates, tuition, or fees that are listed within the catalog, marketing material, or on our website.
Doane Library: Doane’s Librarians are available to help with student research. Request an appointment online, by email (email@example.com), or by phone (402-826-8287). The Library provides both on- and off-campus access to databases, e-books and physical books, and full text articles published in peer-reviewed academic and professional journals. Military Friendliness Academic Policy: Veterans and active duty military personnel with military obligations are encouraged to communicate to the faculty about these obligations. These communications need to occur within the first two weeks of a course, or as soon as military obligations are identified, and the student needs to provide relevant documentation to the faculty. If necessary, once the student has self-disclosed and provided proper documentation to the faculty, reasonable arrangements will be implemented to help the student complete their academic coursework. Student Recording of Class Sessions: Doane University prohibits recording and transmission of activities (e.g., lectures, discussions) that occur as part of a classroom session by a student unless permission from the course instructor has been obtained and all students in the course as well as any guest speakers have been informed that audio/video recording may occur. A recording is defined as a video or audio replication or photographic image recorded on devices, including, but not limited to, audio recorders, video recorders, cellular phones, digital cameras, MP3 players, computers, tablets, and other handheld devices that records images and/or sound. The only exception is when the Academic Success Center has authorized recording as an academic accommodation for a qualified student with a disability and has notified the instructor of that authorization. If a student is given authorization to record any portion of a classroom session, that student understands that the recording is for the sole use of the individual student and may not be reproduced, sold, posted online, or otherwise distributed. A student does not have permission to reproduce or post the information on any social media (e.g., YouTube, FaceBook, etc.), or other public or private forum that would infringe on the privacy rights of others represented in the recording. Public distribution of such materials may constitute copyright infringement in violation of federal or state law, or College policy. Violation of this policy may subject a student to disciplinary action under Doane's Student Code of Conduct and Resolution Process policies.
Religious Accomodations: A student who has a conflict with a scheduled exam, assignment, or required attendance due to a religious obligation (observance of a religious holiday, participate in required religious functions) must notify the faculty member in writing no less than one week prior to the absence. Students should contact the instructor to make arrangements for making up the coursework.
Study Time: Expectation of the amount of time the course requires students to spend preparing and completing assignments. Typically, students should expect to spend two to three hours out of class for each credit hour of a course. Actual time will vary depending on students’ backgrounds.
Title IX/ADA: Doane University is committed to providing a safe and productive learning environment for all students that is free of all forms of discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Under current Title IX guidelines, there are Responsible and Referral Employees. Anyone can report to Title IX, but not everyone is mandated to do so. In the best interests of our students and the Doane community, faculty are encouraged to report.
Responsible Employees are obligated to report incidents of sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking to the Title IX Coordinator. Those who function as Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) are considered Responsible Employees; for example, campus directors and athletic coaches. Most employees (including professors) are Referral Employees, who are obligated to provide resources but are not obligated to report. Confidential Resources, those with legally protected confidentiality (such as our campus counselors) will not share information except in very specific circumstances. Again, in the best interests of our students and community, faculty are encouraged to report. Well-being: Recent National College Health Assessment results find stress, sleep problems, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, concern for troubled friends and/or family members, internet/computer games, extracurricular activities, and substance abuse among the top health impediments to academic performance. Doane University offers a no-cost Counseling Center on our Crete campus for residential students and offers initial no-cost services and consultations through Continuum EAP to undergraduate students of Grand Island, Lincoln, Omaha, and Online. Force Majeure: The duties and obligations of Doane University may be modified or suspended immediately and without notice because of force majeure causes beyond Doane’s reasonable control and occurring without its fault or negligence including, but not limited to, acts of god, fire, war, governmental action, terrorism, epidemic, pandemic, weather, national emergencies, or other threats to the safety of students or staff. If such an event occurs, Doane’s duties and obligations may be modified, suspended, or postponed until such time as Doane, in its sole discretion, may safely resume operations. Doane may, at its option, and in its sole discretion, alter the academic year schedule or provide alternate means of instruction, including, but not limited to, distance or remote learning.
